Benny Ray er født og opvokset i Randers. Interessen for line dance stammer helt tilbage fra et ophold i London i 1996, hvor han for første gang deltog i denne fantastiske dansestil. Det var på klubber som Big Country, Camden Roadhouse, Break For The Border, City Slickers og Outlaws & Sinners, at han lærte alle de klassiske danse af datidens mest anerkendte instruktører.
Da Benny Ray vendte hjem til Danmark igen i 1997, var det praktisk talt umuligt for ham at finde et sted at fortsætte med line dance i Østjylland. Derfor tog han kontakt med Randers Danse Studio, og med deres hjælp lykkedes det at stable et lille hold på benene. Benny Ray døbte sine hold "Cowboys & Angels."
Benny Ray er uden tvivl Danmarks mest vindende linedancer. I sommeren 2002 deltog Benny Ray i sin første line dance konkurrence, og siden den dag er det blevet til utallige konkurrencer og medaljer ved stævner i bl.a. England, Holland, Schweiz, Norge, Sverige og Danmark. Titlerne inkluderer Skandinavisk mester i 2003 og Danmarksmester i 2003-2004-2005. Ved EM 2008 blev det til en 2. plads i intermediate gruppen, samt en 1. plads i koreografikonkurrencen.
I 2009 blev det så endelig til guld ved Verdensmesterskabet – først i koreografi og derefter i Intermediate.
Ved Verdensmesterskabet i 2010 blev Benny Ray kåret som Advanced og Showcase verdensmester, og avancerede derfor til Star divisionen, hvor han nu konkurrerer på Jewel niveau samt med egne koreografier.
I 2011 blev Benny Ray officielt femdobbelt Verdensmester, da han tog guldet i Jewel gruppen.
Benny Ray har sit eget danse studio i Randers, hvor han dagligt underviser alle hold fra begyndere og øvede til konkurrencehold.
I oktober 2005 udgav Benny Ray i samarbejde med RecArt Music Danmarks første line dance instruktions DVD: The Line Dance Way.
I juni 2008 kom Benny Ray på forsiden af det engelske blad Linedancer Magazine | Forside | Side 1 | Side 2
I 2010 blev Benny Ray nomineret til "Årets Internationale Koreograf" af Linedancer Magazine.
